What are we organising next?

LAST UPDATED: September 28, 2017

Below are details about some forthcoming GFA-related events, in chronological order

(Note: you may also like to click here to be taken to a web page of the British German Association, with details of some of their forthcoming events).

1. Annual Autumn Lecture: Thursday 16 November, at 7.15 p.m. (in the Council Chamber, Millmead House, Millmead, Guildford)

“German democracy: how is it different?”

Speaker: Dr. Emanuele Massetti (Lecturer in Comparative Politics, University of Surrey)

Dr Massetti’s research includes the study of federalism and multi-level governance, and electoral systems/reforms across Western Europe.

He will address for us questions such as:

•           What is the current German set-up?

•           How does it work in practice?

•           How effective is it?

•           How does it compare with the British system and others?

Many members expressed interest in a lecture on this topic, particularly relevant just now in view of the recent German elections, and the comparison with other systems should be fascinating and instructive.

2. German Christmas Market - Sunday, December 3, 2017 - save the date! (in the Guildhall, Guildford)

3. German Dinner - planned for February/March 2018, details to be confirmed

4. Spring Lecture - planned for March 2018, date & venue to be confirmed.

Speaker: Professor Erik Levi, a distinguished musicologist and specialist in German music with many appearances on BBC programmes, will talk to us on “Is there a German sound?”
