1.    Autumn Lecture - "German art - a personal view from the bridge" - Monday November 26, 2018, 7.15pm

 Speaker:   Ian Charnock, Retired Head of History of Art, Guildford High School & St George’s, Ascot

 Where:      Council Chamber,  Millmead House, Millmead, Guildford GU2 4BB

Open to the public: free admission.

Mr Charnock is a distinguished art historian and a gifted teacher, lecturer and author. He studied history of art subjects at universities in Wales, London, Oxford, and Spain and was head of History of Art at two local schools for many years and a senior examiner at AQA. He has published numerous articles and reviews on Art History, plus two books on Sherlock Holmes.

He will talk to us about German art, including the German tradition of wood sculpture.

Admission is free, and open to the public, but if you are coming, please email us at guildfordtwinning@gmail.com  so that we can make sure there is a seat for you (and a glass of wine). This promises to be a popular lecture.



2.    Mini German Christmas Market - Sunday December 2, 2018

 When:       Sunday, 2 December 2018 (11:00am to 4:00pm)

 Where:      Guildhall, High Street, Guildford GU1 3AA

Open to the public: free admission.


Stalls selling: traditional wooden toys, gifts, cards, candles, German bakery, secondhand German books, CDs and DVDs.

Tasting of fine German wines.

Refreshments - Glühwein, coffee and cake.

At 12 noon the Mayor will present the prizes to the two Guildford sixth-formers who have won our Essay Competition.
