The Anglo German Club in Freiburg was founded in 1958 by Dorothy Elchlepp, an Englishwoman who had married a German, Paul Elchlepp, and spent the war years in Freiburg. After the war, she made it her life's work to improve Anglo-German relationships. She started an English conversation group which became the Anglo German Club, and then in 1979 her hard work bore fruit in the twinning of Freiburg with Guildford.
